Mystic Dragonfly Creations — Born from the Portal

Mystic Dragonfly Creations — Born from the Portal

Where a real place became the beginning of a creative world

Mystic Dragonfly Creations grew from something very real: years of painting, observing nature, collecting unusual objects, photographing details, and returning again and again to the same question—What is this?

The garden and grounds that inspired the Dragonfly Portal are real. So are the stones, fossil fragments, dragonflies, changing light, bamboo, weathered surfaces, and small discoveries that have made their way into my photographs, paintings, notes, and stories.

The Portal itself belongs to another layer.

It is the creative language I use to connect those real observations into the mythology of the Dragonfly Archive.

The Real Place Comes First

Before I call something a relic, a lantern, a Heartstone, or a page of the Archive, I begin with what is actually there.

I look at color, texture, weight, surface pattern, crystal growth, weathering, fractures, grain, and anything else that can be responsibly observed. When testing is possible, I use it. When an identification is uncertain, I leave it uncertain.

That is important because the wonder of a real object does not depend on exaggerating what we know about it.

The Archive can say I don't know yet and still keep looking.

Then the Portal Appears

Once the observation is grounded, imagination can enter.

In the lore of Mystic Dragonfly Creations, the familiar garden becomes the Dragonfly Portal—a threshold where overlooked things begin to speak through story. Dragonflies become markers. Stones become pages. Fire and memory gather around Ignivar, the Flame-Born Guardian. Forgotten stories wait for a Keeper to notice them.

That mythology is storytelling. It is not a claim that the property is a literal supernatural gateway.

The distinction does not make the story smaller. For me, it makes it stronger, because every imaginative layer has something real beneath it.

April and AVRILIS

My name is April Louann Mitchell. I am the artist, author, photographer, observer, and founder behind Mystic Dragonfly Creations.

AVRILIS is the creative persona that lives inside The Dragonfly Journals and the mythology of the Archive.

AVRILIS is not presented as a literal transformation or supernatural identity. She is the Keeper within the story—the part of the narrative that can walk beside Ignivar, enter the Portal, follow the forgotten pages, and give language to the wonder that begins with real discoveries.

April observes the object.

AVRILIS carries it into story.

The two belong together, but they are not the same kind of truth.

Why the Portal Matters

The Portal has become one of the central ideas connecting my artwork, natural discoveries, photography, and books.

A reader may first arrive because of a painting. Someone else may discover an unusual specimen in the Archive. Another person may meet Ignivar through the books. Another may begin with a blog story.

Each path can lead deeper into the same world.

That is why I no longer think of Mystic Dragonfly Creations as simply a shop.

It is becoming a living Archive—a place where objects, images, artwork, observations, and stories remain connected even after a one-of-a-kind piece has moved into a private collection.

The physical object may leave.

The record remains.

And sometimes that record becomes the beginning of another story.

Where Evidence and Imagination Meet

The philosophy behind Mystic Dragonfly Creations is simple:

The object comes first. The story grows from what is actually there.

Science and observation ask what can be demonstrated.

Lore asks what the discovery makes us imagine.

Neither has to pretend to be the other.

That is the balance I want readers to encounter throughout the Dragonfly Archive and The Dragonfly Journals: curiosity without false certainty, mythology without disguising itself as evidence, and wonder that begins by looking closely at the real world.

The Portal Is Still Opening

Mystic Dragonfly Creations was born from the Portal in the creative sense: from the moment a familiar place stopped being merely background and became something worth observing, documenting, painting, questioning, and remembering.

The garden did not have to become another world.

I only had to begin seeing this one differently.

That is still what the Portal means to me.

Look closer.

Notice what has been overlooked.

Ask the question.

What is this?

Then see where the answer—or the honest absence of one—takes you.
