The Dragonfly Journals: How One Forgotten Stone Became the Beginning of a New Mytholog

Every Story Begins With One Discovery

Sometimes the greatest adventures don’t begin on distant mountains or in forgotten castles.

Sometimes they begin in your own backyard.

For nearly three decades, a remarkable stone rested quietly beneath the bathroom window in my flower garden. I walked past it thousands of times. Mowed around it. Watered flowers beside it. Admired its unusual beauty without realizing what it might truly contain.

It wasn’t until I picked it up with fresh eyes that everything changed.

Inside were quartz crystals…

Dark mineral veins…

Confirmed garnets…

Ancient textures that looked almost carved by another world.

That discovery became the seed for something much larger than a rock collection.

It became The Dragonfly Journals.

Not because the stone was magical…

…but because imagination has always grown best when rooted in truth.

That single discovery inspired an entire mythology built upon real geology, authentic curiosity, and the belief that every ordinary place still holds extraordinary stories waiting to be found.

This September, I’ll be sharing that story for the very first time.

1. Science Became the Roots. Mythology Became the Tree.

When I began writing this book, I made one promise to myself.

I would never blur the line between science and storytelling.

Instead, I wanted to celebrate both.

Every artifact inside The Dragonfly Journals begins with something real.

A genuine mineral.

A fossil.

A crystal.

A geological process.

Then, from those scientific roots…

the mythology grows.

Readers will always know where science ends and imagination begins—but they’ll enjoy walking between both worlds.

Imagine discovering a real garnet inside an old stone.

Science explains how it formed.

Mythology asks…

Why did Ignivar hide it there?

That question changes everything.

2. Ignivar’s Heartstone Was Never Just a Rock

The centerpiece of Book One is a remarkable artifact I now call Ignivar’s Heartstone.

In reality…

it’s an extraordinary mineral specimen containing quartz, mica, confirmed garnets, and other fascinating geological features.

Within the mythology…

it becomes something entirely different.

The Heartstone is believed to be the first artifact ever placed into the Dragonfly Archive.

According to legend, Ignivar—the Flame-Born Guardian—hid it beneath the roots of the Tree of Life before the Nine Realms drifted apart.

The stone remembers.

The dragonflies remember.

Only the Keeper has forgotten.

Until now.

This blend of authentic geology and fantasy creates a world where every real specimen becomes the doorway into another chapter.

3. The Dragonfly Archive Is Inspired by Real Discoveries

Over the years, I’ve collected stones from riverbeds, beaches, mountains, forests, and my own Texas property.

Some became display pieces.

Others became jewelry.

But every one of them carried a story.

As my collection grew, something unexpected happened.

Instead of seeing rocks…

I began seeing chapters.

Each specimen became an artifact.

Each fossil became evidence.

Each crystal became another page inside an invisible archive that seemed to write itself.

That’s how Mystic Dragonfly Creations evolved.

Not simply as an art business…

…but as a place where science, creativity, storytelling, and wonder all meet.

The Dragonfly Archive isn’t a museum.

It’s an invitation.

To slow down.

Look closer.

Ask better questions.

And remember that curiosity is one of the greatest forms of magic.

4. Why I’m Launching This Book at Book Club

There couldn’t be a more meaningful place.

This September, I’ll be hosting our monthly Book Club Brunch as a collaborative event presented by Herb & Smudge Apothecary and Mystic Dragonfly Creations.

Instead of discussing someone else’s story…

we’ll celebrate the birth of a brand-new one.

Guests will enjoy:

• A literary brunch

• Live storytelling

• Behind-the-scenes inspiration

• The first public reading from The Dragonfly Journals

• A Dragonfly Archive pop-up exhibit

• Original artifacts that inspired the mythology

• Book signing

• Community conversations

This isn’t just a book launch.

It’s the opening of a new world.

My hope is that every guest leaves wondering what hidden stories might already exist in their own backyard.

5. This Is Only the Beginning

Book One is called:

Ignivar’s Heartstone

But it isn’t really about one stone.

It’s about learning to see differently.

Future books will follow Avrilis and Ignivar as they journey through the Dragonfly Portal, the Tree of Life, and the Nine Realms, uncovering artifacts inspired by real minerals, fossils, crystals, and discoveries from across Texas, Wyoming, and beyond.

Every book begins with something you could actually hold in your hand.

Every legend grows from something real.

That’s the heart of The Dragonfly Journals.

Science is never diminished.

Fantasy is never disguised as fact.

Instead…

they walk together.

One explains how the world formed.

The other reminds us why we fell in love with exploring it in the first place.

And perhaps that’s what stories have always done best.

Not replace reality…

but deepen our appreciation for it.
