The Ember That Would Not Die

“The Ember That Would Not Die”

Long before April became Avrilis—the Dragonfly Empress—the land rested quietly. The Portal slept beneath the soil, dreaming of ancient forests and forgotten creatures. It was in those dreams that the first flicker of this stone was born.

The elders of the old world tell of a colossal tree known as The Emberroot, whose heart never fully cooled. When lightning struck it during the Age of Molten Rain, the tree burst into flame but did not burn away. Instead, its core crystallized, locking fire, memory, and strength into stone.

Fragments of the Emberroot were said to scatter across worlds… and one such fragment waited beneath Avrilis’ land.

When the Portal awakened, the ground glowed softly beneath the oak. Firefly sigils spiraled upward. The soil warmed. And with a sound like cracking bark, the Portal opened just wide enough for a single ember-stone to slip through.

It landed at Avrilis’ feet—small, warm, and pulsing like a fading heartbeat. She lifted it, and the amber light brightened in her palm, like an old forest recognizing its new guardian.

This piece—now called the Amberroot Emberstone—is believed to contain a spark from the original Emberroot Tree itself. A relic of perseverance. A memory of fire that refused to die. A reminder that even the smallest piece of the past can carry great power into the future.
